Pinedale Middle School was recently informed that 18 PMS students are among the 2016 Regional Finalists in Globaloria's Game Design Competitions. The Globey Competition is integral to the total learning experience of all Globaloria students nationwide. It is designed to enhance students' STEM skills and computational fluency, motivate them, and pace them creatively through a variety of game design and coding courses. The coding program, taught by Cheryl Travis, PMS technology teacher, is in its third year at PMS.
The 2016 Pinedale Regional Finalists are: Cameron Anderson, Sophia Cupril-Smith, Carson Gregory, Thomas Harnack, Caleb Helm, Rylee Helm (two games), Aurora Looney, Coal Nelson (two games), Shyla Orders, Mitchell Pape, Landon Preece, Cole Redmond, Zain Roberts, Emma Rogers, Jasmine Saenz, Jacob Snell, Bailey Watson, and Shane Winner.
As the largest program of its kind in the nation in 2015-2016, Globaloria generated 700,000 hours of design thinking in classrooms lead by 650 educators in 150 schools in 15 states, including Wyoming. The 2016 Regional Finalists from across the country are now entered into the national pool. The announcement of National Finalists will be made on Monday, September 19th. National Finalists will gather with educational leaders, VIPs, sponsors and the press at the Texas State Capitol in Austin for the National Awards ceremony taking place on September 24th, 2016.

Another reason for this night to be special was the fact that the NFL has provided, for its 50th Anniversary celebration, a golden football to every high school that produced an NFL player. For Pinedale High School that is John Burroughs, who graduated from PHS in 1990 and went on to play eight seasons in the NFL including a Super Bowl game. What an amazing achievement!
John spoke to the athletes about dreaming goals. He told them that if they dream their biggest and best dream and it only includes themselves, that it is not big enough. If they dream their biggest and best dream and in does not benefit others, it is not big enough as it will end! He encouraged them to not be blinded by the bright light of the “spotlight”, but use the light like a “flashlight” to light the way, guide their steps, help others to safety, and be leaders in their communities, states, and country. He encouraged them to dream as big as they can, but sure it includes benefiting others along the way so that the dream does not die, but continues in its reach to others.
Thank you, John, for coming to be with us last night, thank you for sharing your message, and thank you for being such a wonderful example to all of us. Go Green!

We just received word that our very own, Rose Robertson, has been named as the "2016 Wyoming History Teacher of the Year"....whahoo! She will now be in the running for the "2016 National History Teacher of the Year".
Rose will receive a $1,000 honorarium and the PHS Library will receive a set of history books and educational materials from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. This is a great honor for Rose and just highlights the fact that we have wonderful teachers in our district.
When you see Rose, "high fives" or "pats on the back" are definitely in order!
